The visit to Zapata's Swamp is generally presented as an Eco-tour. It is the biggest swamp of the Caribbean located to the South of Matanzas City, 2 hrs from Varadero. It mostly consists of a huge swamp, partly covered by forest. It is one of the most complete wildlife reserves in the Caribbean, rich in birds and animals. This site was declared a Biosphere Reserve and the area around the Treasure Lagoon, has been designated a national park, the Gran Parque Natural de Montemar.
Driving across Matanzas province and the little towns and countryside, by the biggest citrus and sugar cane plantations in this province, to visit the Farm “Fiesta Campesina” (get to know our endemic flora and fauna), the Museo de la Comandancia (Castro´s operation headquarters during the Bay of Pigs conflict, Playa Larga (a beach at the Bay of Pigs); the fascinating Fish Cave a 70 m deep and crystalline water pool, ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling (you can bring you own gears or rent them there).
And the optional visit on a speed boat to Guamá (a replica of a typical pre-Columbian Indian village) or to a Crocodile breeding farm; will give you the unique opportunity of interacting with the framing culture of our country as well as with its history and nature.
Pickup at 8:00am
Visit to the crocodile farming site and the aboriginal villa (cover must be paid).
Take a 45 minutes boat tour to an indian village replica (Admission fee Not included)
Lunch at a rural private restaurant with a variety of main courses altogether for the price of one. (Not included)
Water events if desired.
Return at 4:00pm.
